Calming a crying baby is something that every parent has to deal with. All parents have faced this ordeal, when your baby cries and you have no clue of the reason why the baby is crying.

It is no easy task to deal with and calm a crying baby. As a new parent you may not have any idea about how to soothe your baby. In fact, the feeling is such that you will want to give anything to someone who can help you soothe your crying baby.

Why infants cry

Babies cannot tell you when they are hungry. They cannot convey to you the message that they are uncomfortable in that posture or some itchy tag is troubling them. So to let you know their discomfort they cry. It is how they tell you that they need you.

So after you have taken care of all the needs of your baby, like, feeding, changing diaper and resting, and you still are struggling with your efforts of calming a crying baby, then calm down, do not assume the worst.

Crying infants and parenting woes, is something that is common with all new parents. During the first few months, all infants develop a fussy period. This could be so because at this stage infants still have a neurological system that is immature. Again there are some babies, which are a little more sensitive to smells and noises around them. These infants become upset even with the slightest of sensations.

Soothing strategies for calming a crying baby

Understandably, different soothing techniques work for different babies. Also, different techniques will work for different baby's at different times. It will depend on baby' s mood. So as a parent, you should keep experimenting with different techniques in order to soothe your baby. Gradually, you will know what suits your baby and at what times.

Recreate the womb like environment

Your baby may be missing its first home, your womb. You can, however, use the following techniques to calm hi down.

  • Give the baby something to suck, maybe a pacifier or your finger.
  • Jiggle the baby gently, the feeling is somewhat similar to what the baby experiences in your womb.
  • Make some kind of a shushing sound, you can either run a hair dryer or make other white noise. This is something that the infant experiences in your womb.
  • Put the baby's arms down and swaddle the baby while snuggling him.

Talk and sing to your baby. The familiar tone of your voice as a mother can have the most soothing effect on the baby. Try to divert his attention to something amusing for him, like your pet or some new toy.

Over a period of time, you will develop a bond and a connect with your baby, that will help you give your baby everything that they want even before they ask for it.

So without getting frustrated, work on your relationship with your new born child. And very soon, you will be sharing memorable times together!
