Abdominal pain during pregnancy : Tips

A large number of women usually experiences abdominal pains during their pregnancy. This is absolutely normal, especially in the initial stages of pregnancy. These abdominals pains can sometimes be misunderstood as menstruation cramps. However, persistent abdominal pain can be a sign of some serious health issue.

If you experience lower abdominal pain, then you must immediately see a physician. Lower abdominal cramps are referred as erratic discomfort and indicate that your uterus is getting prepared to carry your baby for nine months. However, if this abdominal pain is accompanied by some other factors, then you must surely take an expert advice.

Ectopic pregnancy is a situation where fertilized egg joins at the exterior of a woman's uterus. In most of the cases, egg attaches itself to the fallopian tube and can be easily treated if diagnosed early. If you suffer from abdominal cramps in ectopic pregnancy, then you would undergo the symptoms like fever, chills and spotting. - The food intake may not balance with you or the baby and can create indigestion, ultimately resulting in abdominal cramps.
Many a times, the abdominal pain can get harsh and unbearable, so you must consult your physician at the earliest. To lessen the severity of abdominal cramps, you may follow some of these below mentioned tips:
- To relieve the cramps, you can place a heat pad on your abdomen. However, don’t make it extremely hot.
- Don’t take drugs that are not prescribed by your doctor. Drugs like NSAIDS and ibuprofen can be destructive during pregnancy.
- Since your digestion process is affected by hormonal changes, so make sure that you take right food. Heartburn and indigestion can raise abdominal cramps. Drink plenty of water and increase the intake of fiber in your diet to avoid constipation.
- Abstaining from sex during the initial phase of pregnancy can also reduce abdominal cramps. Although sex does not harm you or your baby, but it may increase the chances of spotting and cramping.
- Adequate rest and sufficient movement would make you feel better equipped and reenergized to handle minor cramps and discomforts.
Abdominal pain is considered normal and safe during pregnancy. However, if it is coupled with some other indications, then it can be a sign of early warning and should be treated without any delays.
