VOMITING DURING PREGNANCY OVER VIEW:
Pregnancy is the stage during which a woman goes through some mental and physical changes, and vomiting during pregnancy is one of the symptoms of those changes. About 70% of women show this symptom during first three months of pregnancy. So during pregnancy vomiting are normal. This condition is also known as morning sickness.
CAUSES OF VOMITING DURING PREGNANCY:
The exact cause of vomiting during pregnancy is still not clear, but changes in hormonal level is one of the causes of vomiting during pregnancy period. These hormonal changes affect the relaxation and contraction pattern of the stomach and intestines, which causes vomiting.
It has been proved that women, who are likely to have nausea from birth control pills or motion sickness, vomit more in pregnancy period.
SYMPTOMS OF VOMITING DURING PEGNANCY:
- Increased saliva
- Sensitivity to certain smells
- Changes in taste of some foods
WHEN TO TAKE MEDICAL CARE:
A woman should consult a doctor under these situations:
- If she is not able to consume liquid for more than 24 hours.
- If this symptom is backed by few other symptoms like fever, headache, abdominal pain.
- If a woman is suffering from dizziness, fainting, weakness.
TREATMENT OF VOMITING DURING PREGNANCY PERIOD:
If symptoms are not severe, then a woman can take home remedies as treatment, but if vomiting is not in control then doctor may prescribe you some fluid. These fluids contain sugar and electrolyte.
SELF CARE AT HOME:
- Eat your food in small quantity.
- Do not eat spicy and fatty food.
- Try to consume simple carbohydrates such as saltine crackers, unbuttered toast, and plain baked potatoes.
- Always have protein along with carbohydrates. Because it helps in minimizing swings in blood sugar, which leads to nausea.
- Drink liquid between the meal and avoid it during the meal.
MEDICATION:
- Doctor will try to stop the vomiting either by giving fluids by mouth or by medication.
- You will be provided fluids to replace important electrolytes such as potassium.
- You may be given thymine injections.
So there is no need to get paranoid, because vomiting during pregnancy is a normal thing.
