Catwalk Down the Ramp Like a Professional Model
Lately, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding catwalk models. The whole controversy revolved around the ‘size zero’ concept as models became anorexic and few even starved themselves to death. But, since then, however, things have changed for good and the natural and curvier look has taken off.
What a Catwalk Really Is
It is the final platform in the fashion industry. Call it the arena or the playing field where you fight with your designs to compete against your fellow designers.
Fashion designers create outfits and select models to flaunt each one of them by walking down the ramp. Catwalk is a graceful way of walking while showcasing the designers’ creativity from all angles in the best possible way.
And, it is not only the designer outfits that is showcased by catwalk but also includes other designer accessories. A lot depends on how well an outfit is showcased by the model on the ramp. If the catwalk performed by the model donning the designer outfit is not perfect or worn how it is meant to be or choreographed well, then it can spoil the complete elegance and beauty of the outfit.
This is why prior to the final show, the catwalk choreographer sits with designer and the models and the final rehearsal is carried out. Only after this, on the D-day, the final catwalk down the ramp is performed in front of the fashion world and the media.
You and Catwalk
So, it is not all about glamour and glitz that it looks to be. If you wish to pound the catwalk as a professional does, then it is not the easiest task to accomplish. It may seem like a piece of cake as you only need to wear the latest fashion and bring in a little ''oomph” to your walk. But, the fact is that there is much practise required to perfect the runway walk.
So, if you want to walk down the ramp like the super models, then there are a few things that you need to keep in mind, like
- To begin with, get a pair of high heels and a beautiful outfit. No doubt, you can learn to catwalk without high heels. But if you want to walk like a model and feel like one of them, it will help you if you practise wearing stilettos.
- Get acquainted with a local fashion designer or a fashion design student. This will give you a chance to participate in real runway shows. Thus, you will gain real-time exposure, and within some time you will start walking like a real model.
- Networking is the magic word. In this industry, a lot will depend on who you know and who includes you on their runway shows.
- Practise your catwalk as much as you can. One of the most popular ways is to place a book on your head and walk. This helps you to develop a good posture.
Walking down the ramp is only a start to your modelling career. There are many platforms that you will need to reach by accomplishing perfection in your catwalk, and you could be seen on the runways in Paris and Milan!
