Embrace our baby more often: benefits of co-sleeping with your baby
Babies don't drop from the sky, they come from their mother's womb. The nature starts establishing this relation nine months before the baby really sees the world not because its a ritual but so that the mother and the baby have a bonding along with the mother understanding that she has to nurture and protect her baby. But the nature also demands that once the baby is out of the womb the mother continues to nurture him and protect him. Cradles and cribs are man – made and were not the nature's call. Before their invention, babies slept with their mothers and benefited from it. Also, there was nothing called SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).
A mother's co-sleeping with her baby could never be harmful and of course there are several benefits co-sleeping for both mother and the baby. Read further to know more about the benefits of co-sleeping
- Better sleep for mother and child:
co-sleeping with baby, could actually grant you a better sleep pattern because you don't have to get out of the bed every now and then. Imagine your baby sleeping in the other room or in his cradle, suddenly he starts to cry because he has wet his nappy and needs a change. You get up from the middle of your sleep and what happens when you go back to your bed? You realize that you can't sleep anymore because now your sleep is broken. The reason behind you not being able to sleep again is that once you walk out of your bed and engage yourself in some other activity, the production of melatonin (the hormone responsible for sleep) stops, therefore, you don't feel sleepy anymore. Now imagine the same situation, but you don't have to get out of your bed, all you need is sit in your bed, take out a few minutes to change the nappy and you are off to sleep again.
- Easier and more frequent breastfeed:
Studies show that infants who sleep with their mothers receive breastfeeding twice as often as unaccompanied sleepers. Also their health conditions are usually better than the solitary sleepers. Moreover it is easier for the mother to breastfeed the baby while lying down than to sit on a chair or rocker.
- Co-sleeping leads to an independent child.
Studies show that babies who sleep with their parents in initial stages of life, are more independent, confident and have fewer health problems than the lone sleepers. The fact behind the same being, that an accompanied child is very much confident about all his needs being met as compared to a unaccompanied child.
- Mother's intuition works when they co-sleep with their baby.
When a mother co-sleeps with her baby, its her intuition that guides her most of the time. In cases where the baby does not sleep with the mother the intuition is not strong enough to guide her. Resulting in her missing the subtle signs of uneasiness revealed by the baby.
- Co-sleeping is more essential for working moms
Mothers who are working, should consider co-sleeping with baby more often. Simply because during they day they do not have time to form a bonding with their infant and what could be better than cuddling with them in bed!
