Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of a child, right from the infancy to adulthood. Infants- parents need to attend to their infant’s needs by providing special food and comfort. They need to adapt to their infant’s erratic sleep cycle. They should love their child constantly. It is advisable to interact and communicate with a child while changing his diaper or clothes. This one way communication will encourage your child to participate in conversation later.     

Toddlerhood- child develop motor skill and coordination at this stage. Parents can encourage lingual development at this stage. They should help their child in developing their hand-eye coordination, basic gestures and emotional display. Child also needs parental protection while he learns to climb stairs or walk.

Child- Parents have to make important decision regarding early childhood education. Preschoolers need love and care from their parents. Children at this stage are very likely to put things in mouth; hence parents need to keep all dangerous items out of the reach of their children.  

Adolescence- children are starting forming their identity and developing their interpersonal and occupational roles. They look at their peer and other with regard to how to behave. It’s the time for high risk for children, as their new found freedom can shut off some life opportunities. Parents’ behavior plays a great role at this time of their life. They should be aware of their adolescent’s activities, consultation, guidance and direction.

Adults- while the children attain the age of young adults, the results of successful or unsuccessful parenting. It is clearly brought into picture when they take the decision about their education, work or friendship and marriage.
Thus, parents need to play an important role in various aspects of the life of their children.
